Writing: Fiction |
| Are
you looking for an interesting and fun way to improve your writing abilities,
and quality of expression? Do you often find yourself daydreaming about
fictitious situations and want to write them down? In this course you
will be able to do both. Throughout the term, students will “try
on” a variety of writing techniques and styles through a series
of short assignments on topics such as setting and tone, character development,
dialogue writing, unreliable narrator and emotional drama. Through regular
class critiques, students will learn how to give constructive criticism
to classmates, and how to effectively revise their own work. In addition
to this, we will also discuss short stories and excerpts from novels
that demonstrate the techniques mentioned above. Some of the authors
we will read are Virginia Woolf, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Salmon
Rushdie, and Thomas Pynchon. |
